As I think about my circle of friends, currently all in there 20s/30s – I can say with certainty that none of them wear mom jeans. You know exactly what I’m talking about, think high-waisted pants, diagonal pockets, and straight/tapered ankles, that are inevitable too short and give that glamorous allusion of the long butt. For this I am grateful and hope that as we age into motherhood, none of us will find ourselves ensnared in these ill-fitting/not-flattering pants. Thankfully, someone has done all the research for us so that you can see exactly what mom jeans don’t do for your figure. Be prepared to laugh, complete with visuals and commentary: click here.

Save More Money
March 16, 2009 · Leave a Comment
Finances seem to be on everyone’s mind nowadays. With the economy failing, and unemployment numbers creeping, people are naturally tightening up the ol pocketbook, and trying to pay down debts and put more money in savings. Above all things, I think it’s most important during this time to have hope and faith that the Lord’s hand is in all things, but I do think there are things we can be doing to be better stewards of our money. It seems that now is a good a time as any to be going back over budgets to see where excesses are, and looking for more ways to cut back. So, about a month ago or so I started cutting coupons, mind you I have not really done this much in the past. And then my cousin Jess showed me how to compare the coupons with the weekly specials at the store (they are usually the newspaper like things that come in the mail that immediately get sent to the trashcan). I honestly had never looked at one of those little mini-newspaper/sale things in my life. So over the past month, I have been collecting coupons from the Sunday paper and preparing my shopping list each week, according to what I need and what’s on sale at the grocery store. I am particulary a fan of HEB, but they have those sale things for every grocery store. And each week, as I start to get more coupons together, and get a little more organized, it is really starting to pay off. And each week I am saving more and more money, and the coupons just keep coming, and the sales at the store are getting better and better. The best is when there is an in-store coupon, combined with an external coupon. It does sound a little daunting at first, but this past Sunday I was able to save $35 is just coupons alone, that’s not even counting the money I saved from buying things when they are on sale. So things really do start to add up, and I would strongly recommend trying it if you haven’t ever given it a shot before, it’s definitely a great way to get a little more for your dollar. The only downside is that it does take more time to clip the coupons, and take your time through the grocery store, but if you like a challenge this is a good one. And even if you don’t have a family and are only shopping for yourself, saving $5 each week, or a little more quickly adds up. Just thought I would throw it out there.

tv time

I have always liked different types of tv shows – dramas, comedies, some reality, some of this and some of that. So when Adam and I got married and we had to learn to share the tv, I quickly realized that his favorite tv shows were not Ugly Betty and Grey’s Anatomy. Not to worry though, with the great technological tool of the DVR, I can watch it while he is working on his computer or studying so it works out. There are some shows we watch together: American Idol (we are quite critical), The Office, etc. But I think hands down, our favorite show is America’s Funniest Home Videos. I can not tell you how many times we sit on the couch and literally just crack up laughing at the show, like laugh so hard you can’t breathe. And sometimes there is nothing more than I would rather do then just sit on the couch and crack up laughing with my husband after a long day of work. So, if you haven’t checked out the show since Bob Saget hosted, you definitley should, the videos don’t get old!

You know you’re getting old…
March 4, 2009 · 2 Comments
You know you’re getting old when you start get exciting about household appliances. Let me explain. As many of you know Adam & I have a sweet puppy named Emme who sheds unlike any other dog I’ve ever met. We’re talking golden retreiver sheds but black thick hair. Not to mention the fact that she loves the carpet and insists on rolling around on it multiple times through out the day.
When I lived in Montrose, we had a great house with these beautiful wooden floors and two shedding dogs who brought in more dirt then my roomate and I could ever keep up with. So, for Christmas one year when Adam and I were still dating, bought me a roomba (the little robotic vacuums). Although this sounds like a not so romantic gift, it was so sweet and thoughtful because I spent way too much time trying to clean floors that were constantly dirty. So the roomba worked great, and cleaned up after the pups, but then I moved and I didn’t have wooden floors anymore, and poor roomba just couldn’t keep up with the carpet.
So when Adam and I got married, we decided to use my old vacuum, but it smelled bad, and then we realized it was not even coming close to picking up all the dog hair, and with Adam and I having bad allergies, this was not sitting very well. So, we decided to go and get a vacuum cleaner last night, and we ended up with a Dyson. I was pretty excited because I know they are supposed to be some of the best vacuums and it was allergy certified, so we took it home.

So we took it home and started vacuuming, and I kid you not, we filled up that canister twice and it’s a decent size, I couldn’t believe how much crud we had in our carpets. Needless to say, I was happy with our purchase, definitley recommend it. So yes, I am excited about my new vacuum, coming next post, “I’m so excited about my toaster”
Just kidding, but it’s pretty funny when you find yourself starting to get excited about things that used to hold no intrest whatsoever.
On another note, we also got Emme a little hiking pack to wear when we take her on walks. Not that we do so much hiking, but you can put weights in the pack and it wears them out a little quicker. She definitley needs to get worn out multiple times a day, even daycare three times a week doesn’t do it. I’m sure Ceasar from the dog whisperer could tell us a whole slew of things we are doing wrong. Anyways, we went to REI got the pack, and I got home and put it on her and stuck some full water bottles in the sides. Let’s just say she wasn’t too excited. She stood like this for 5 minuites until Adam had pity on her and took it off.

So that’s about it, hope you guys have a good day!
