36 Days, 6 Hours and Counting…

October 23, 2008 · Leave a Comment

It’s just around the corner, it seems like yesterday I was like oh my gosh can this engagement seem any longer? But here we are, bridal portraits are this weekend, marriage license next week, engagement photos following week, bachelor/bachelorette parties the next week, and then it’s the weekend before the wedding, holy cow! We found a place to live, to much people’s chagrine (sp?) we are staying in Spring, but I am totally at peace with the situation. I am a walking contradiction to my previous posts; however, I think it was the best choice for us. We love our place, it’s the Vintage Park apartments, so we are pretty excited, we started moving in last weekend. Adam will live there until the wedding, and then I will join him afterwards of course. Here are some pics (these are the models, but they pretty much all look the same):

We have had a blast setting everything up, it’s just so surreal now. Other than that, there’s not much else going on, I am trying not to get to bogged down with all the little stuff so that I can still keep a clear head about everything and not get overwhelmed, it seems like its the little things that always getchya. But we have been so blessed with so many other people wanting to help out. That’s about it, I’ll let you know how the bridal shoot goes after I get back in town, of course I can’t show the pics, you’ll have to come to the wedding for that :)

How Sweet It Is (Or Will Be)

October 10, 2008 · 1 Comment

So it’s no secret, I am getting married really soon, 49 days actually in case you were curious. We have started looking for places to live and the idea of living together is very quickly about to become a reality, and I am so excited. Stacey asked me yesterday if there was anything I was nervous about, and I couldn’t really think of much. I mean there are a few quirks that we are going to obviously deal with, the old stories about the toothpaste tube, or the toilet seat being left up, or not hanging up a towel (cough*Adam*cough :) ) But I am excited to deal with those types of issues (I’m sure all the married folks are rolling their eyes at this point). For instance, Adam and I were talking last night, and he goes, “You know I was thinking the other day about how excited I am to just come home to you every day, how nice it will be to know that at the end of each day, I get to come home to my wife. And then I started thinking about walking in the door, and seeing the mail on the kitchen table, and how I’ll probably need to go get something to keep our mail in so that it doesn’t get lost, and I just got more excited.” I know that as the married years go on, that some of the things that we used to dream of being cute, get annoying, and it’s just not as fresh and new as it was when you were newlyweds, but I pray that in 10 years when Adam and I are frustrated over a lost piece of mail, that somewhere, somehow we can remember what it felt like to be excited about those little things. That we can reinvent ways to keep things fresh and new. I’m sure everyone goes through these thought processes, and I know that as our life goes on and changes and there are kids in the picture that things just change, but I don’t want to lose the ability to get excited over the little things, because I think those are things that just make life so sweet.

This is hilarious, I think Adam and I might perform this for our first dance; however, we’ll need another female volunteer to join us, any takers?

We’re almost there…

October 8, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Well, these past few weeks have been pretty hectic. It seems like ever since the hurricane, both work, wedding, and personal stuff in life has picked up to a really quick speed. We kinda slacked there for a little while around the hurricane, so this past week was catch up week you could say. Invitations are going out this week (they really are). Adam and I have had a blast putting those darn things together. We decided we would save some money and ‘assemble’ them ourselves. They aren’t your typical ivory with script writing. There are stickers, magnents, double-sided tape, and paper involved, so needless to say it has been a process, but a fun one at that. The other Sunday night we cooked a frozen pizza, had a couple beers and assembled the envelopes while watching Heroes, now that’s multi-tasking. I have learned that I am not a fine of caligraphy markers/pens, my handwriting definitley diminishes when I use that stupid thing, but we did the best we can. The reception is finalized, the linens are picked, the food, wine, and assorted alcohols are picked, and we are ready to have a party! Friday was our big errand running day, we walked away from the Magnolia Ballroom, and I was like HOLY COW, I really am getting married. Adam didn’t seem to fully understand my emotions, but it was one of those, wow, moments. We also finalized the cake and picked out the flower girl dress for Lyric. She now refers to the wedding as Her wedding, usually by asking, “How many more sleepies until my wedding?” (Translation – how many more days, she counts days in sleepies, it’s pretty cute). I can’t wait to see the whole thing come together. We’ve had two showers, that were absolutley amazing! All of the ladies that threw the showers did such an unbelievable job, the first one was more traditional with moms and flowers. The second was more of a hang-out time with all of our friends, guys and girls. We played a lot of fun games and it was just so great to see all of our friends that we haven’t seen in a long time, and it made us that much more excited for the big day. Marathon training is still going pretty good, I got sick this week so I can’t breathe really well, but I am so proud of Adam, he is doing awesome! He ran 11 miles on Saturday, we were talking about how we used to not even be able to run around Memorial Park (3 mile loop) without stopping, it’s amazing how quickly your body adapts. We are currently looking for a place to live, it’s a lot harder than I thought. We decided not to go with an earlier place that we had picked because it was too nice, if that’s possible, and we wanted something a little smaller and lower in price. The big decision right now is where we are going to live. Adam and I decided it’s only fair that Emme has a yard to run around in for her sake, so that has really narrowed down our options since we are not planning on buying a house soon, so that has pushed us a little further out from the center of town. And then, if we are going to live in a subarb, we might as well live in Spring since that’s where Adam works, that way only one of us has a commute. So we are looking everywhere between the Heights and Spring right now, who knows where we will end up. But we know the Lord has a place, and we are praying for his provision in that. It’s a hard decision because either place where we will live has its pros and cons. I would love to have a huge yard to play with Emme in, and it’s nice having some of the amenities in the suburbs, but then again a lot of our friends are downtown, more character, so we just don’t know. We started an Engaged Couples bible study which has been really interesting so far. It’s nice to meet with other couples that are at the same stage we are, and there is a lot of great discussion that occurs at the group. There are also these activities you work through as a couple during the week that have already proved to be really beneficial to Adam & I, so I’m excited to see what the next couple months will bring. That’s about it for now, I need to get back on a regular blogging schedule so that they aren’t so long and random, have a good day.
