Ike Update

September 25, 2008 · 1 Comment

There’s not too much going on these days, we surrvived Ike, and are still without power, yes that’s right still without power, and the newest projections are 2 more weeks. 2 WEEKS! Let’s just do an estimate here, let’s say we were to get power next Friday, that would make 3 weeks without power, and next Friday is only a week away, so you do the math. We were very fortunate though, no house damage, no car damage, or people damage. I didn’t have to work for the whole week following Ike, so it was very strange to have a whole week with nothing to do, days were spent raking, picking up leaves, playing cards, playing games, watching tv, etc. We do have a generator, that my dad (aka – McGuyver (sp?) has hooked up to the fuse box, therefore allowing us to power everything but the a/c unit, so everything works in the house, it’s just a tad bit hot. We recently got a window unit for the downstairs, but it does not cool the upstairs. Here are some of my favorite memories from the Ike week:

-remembering how to play speed (the card game) with my cousin, and playing Adam for hours

-watching an entire season of Heroes in less than 3 days

-making grilled cheese sandwhiches on the old Coleman camping stove

-staying up late w/ Adam the night before Ike hit and watching the storm come in

-playing spades with Adam & my parents – we lost..boo!

This was Adam and I’s second major hurricane to go through together (Charlie in 2004 in Florida), I have to admit the one in Florida did a lot more extensive damage, but I can’t even imagine if Ike was a Cat 4 like Charlie was, how awful things would be here. I am ready for the electricity to come back, to have my bed back, and things just be normal again. Adam has been kind enough to give up his bed so that I can sleep in the air conditioning, for that I am so greatful! Anyways, that’s about it for now. I have my first shower this weekend, we had to postpone it b/c of Ike, and I am so excited. Not so much for the gifts, but just because it means the wedding is coming, soon, really soon. I cannot wait to get married, I am so stinking excited, I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve, except it’s lasted like 6 months, woohoo!

People I Believe In

These are our friends Matthew & Lizi Bailey, they are the most genuine and incredible worship leaders I know. Their hearts are amazing, and they have made such a huge impact in Adam & I’s life. They will be singing at our wedding, but if you don’t have their album I definitley recommend it, you can get it on itunes.

Quick Update

September 8, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Well, my crazy few weeks of work are over, thank goodness. It was pretty long and difficult, but I feel that it was successful, and we accomplished what we set out to, so that’s always good. Now that I have time to sit and focus, I am realizing all the things that I need to do and catch up on, so I’ll give a quick run-down.

Wedding planning is back on course, wedding invitations are ordered, we have a few more meetings to finalize everything, and we should be ordering our wedding bands in a few weeks. I am debating whether or not to get Adam’s ring engraved, do people do that anymore? I have no idea, and I can’t come up with anything super insprirational to enscribe on a ring, so we’ll see if I get any bright ideas. We finished registering, we switched one of our registry stores at the last minuite. It went something like this, we were bored and wanted to go and see if Bed, Bath & Beyond had one of those beer making sets for Adam to play with. We walked in, and were like, oh that’s nice, and oh that’s cool, and why didn’t we register here again? So we decided to knock off Target and at B,B&B to the list. This past Friday we walked in and got our registering done in like an hour, and we had a blast doing it. I think one of the best parts of the wedding planning is how active Adam has been involved in the process. It’s been great learning to work as a team, and comprimising on those things that just aren’t that big of a deal. Only problem now is we have registered for way too many dishes. We came up with this great idea to not have everything matching, and now we have like 6 different dish sets, so we might have to scale back, or we are only going to get dishes for the wedding. I think all of the guys have their suits, and almost all the girls have their dresses so it’s coming along quickly. Adam keeps a countdown on his phone, and lets me know each day how many more days we have left, I think today is 81, so so crazy! But I am so so ready. Another crazy thing is we just finalized the plans for our honeymoon to this great all-inclusive resort in Puerto Vallarta, and the plane tickets were only like $400 cheaper than the entire package for us to stay there for 6 nights, that’s crazy!! We are really blessed and got a great deal on the all-inclusive thing and then we will just have to make due with the expensive plane tickets, but we are ready to go.

Marathon, or I should say Half-Marathon training for me, full for Adam is going really well. I feel like we are really motivating each other to stay on top of it and keep going, we have been training for a little over a month I guess, well since the end of July, this was probably like our sixth week or so. The mileage started pretty low, but is slowly creeping up. We typically wake up early on Saturday mornings and drive from Spring to downtown to do our long runs. There is just something really motivating about being out there with all the other runners that have the same goal as you do, and although most probably have like a finishing time goal that is much faster than mine, it keeps me energized and keeps me going. At first I really really wanted a running partner, and hopefully soon Erika and I can get together and do a couple long runs together, but this past week was so great, and the hour I spent by myself running down Allen Pkwy and up Memorial was so relaxing. It was a beautiful morning, like 70 degrees or so, no humidity, I loved it. And I am so proud of Adam, he had to run 9 miles, compared to my 6, and he does them much quicker, and he has really just pushed through this and is looking good to accomplish his goal for the marathon. I haven’t quite figured out what I want my goal to be, I’m thinking 11:00/mile – 11:30/mile, currently I run/walk about 11:50/mile, but I am hoping with more weight loss and as I get in better shape, that time will only improve, I’ll keep you updated.

This weekend Adam and I celebrated our birthdays together, we had planned on going out to the Melting Pot, or to grab a steak, but by the time Sat night came around neither one of us was really in the mood to get all dressed up and go out, so since my parents were going out for the night, we went to HEB, got some good steaks, and some other stuff, and headed to the house to cook. I got out a great bottle of wine that I had been saving for a special occassion, and we started cooking. I really enjoy cooking with Adam, we have such a blast, he is very gifted in the kitchen and on the grill. He cooked our appetizer, steaks, and asparagus; while I made the baked potato in the microwave and cut up some cheese and an apple for a second appetizer. And we sat outside, opened the window to hear the music inside, and lit our 500 citronella candles, and had a great night. It was quiet, relaxing, and pretty romantic for being a home-made dinner. And after thinking of not having to get dressed up, spending a ton of money, and just being at home, it made it that much more terriffic. We finished it off with some coffee ice cream for dessert, and ended up going to bed around 10:30, we are getting so old!! Ha!

That’s about it for today, hope you guys have a great day, and happy birthday sb!!!
