Life Update….

June 20, 2008 · 4 Comments

Ok, so a lot has happened in the wedding planning world, we are well on our way to having this thing planned and done with no major breakdowns or mishaps. Here are the details so far:

Date: Friday, November 28, 2008

Reception: Magnolia Ballroom

Florist: The Cutting Garden

Cake Lady: Royal Icing

Photographer: Kyle Barnes

Colors: Green (some shade), Choc Brown, and Ivory

So, needless to say, we got a lot done this weekend. We had a large group for the cake tasting, My mom and dad, Adam, and his mom, and Melinda. Lots of opinions, and that was just on the taste part, the design part was even more confusing. We were pulling the silk flowers off of her other cakes to design ours. She was so great, and didn’t seem to mind too much, but I would recommend if you are getting married, only go with yourself, the groom, and your wedding coordinator if you have one, otherwise it can get a little hairy, but it was a fun experience to say the least. We still have a lot of details to plan, but the wedding favors, invitations, linens, dj, and specialty napkins have all been picked out, so I feel much less stressed out than before. We are still however looking for a cool ceremony site, so if anyone knows of a cool church near downtown, that might be open the day after Thanksgiving, let me know.

In other news, Adam is loving his job. I haven’t hung out with anyone from there, but it sounds like everyone is very personable and welcoming, I seriously haven’t seen him this happy in so long, the Lord has been so so faithful! He really seems to be enjoying his work assignments, and so far they seem to like all his designs and ideas, so I am just so happy for him. The drive thing is a little different, so I think he might be moving up to Spring until we get married, which would be tough not seeing him everyday, but we’ll get through it.

So that’s about it. This weekend I am moving all of my stuff out of the old house where I lived in Montrose for 18 months, that’s a long time, it doesn’t seem that long ago. It seems like yesterday Liz and I moved in and were throwing our first party. A lot has changed in a year and a half, and now Stacey is moving in there, so I still get to go to all of the parties :) I know that they will have a blast there, and that she’ll enjoy getting to meet all of the interesting neighbors who stretch in their biker shorts without shirts on in their front yards, oh the memories. I like the new little place that I’m staying in, I think Emme likes it more because she gets to go for walks 4 times a day and chase the runners, squirrels, and anything else that moves, but it is an adjustment, but sometimes change is good.

I think that through all of this, I am learning to not hold onto things so tightly. I feel like the week before I got engaged, the Lord just started re-arranging my life. At first it was hard, and not so easy, moving, engagement, new jobs, lost jobs, friendships changing, relationships changing, life just changing. And it will keep changing, and it just seems like we get so set in our ways, and the way we want our lives to be, that there is no room for change, there is no room for the Lord to move because we have set the box of our lives, and we get uncomfortable when anything comes along to shake it. But I have definitley felt like my box has been tipped upside down, and kicked across the yard, but not in a bad way, I needed some change in my life, I need to learn to adapt better to ever changing situations, because that’s just the way life is. But it makes it so much easier when we rely on the Lord and use Him as our centerpoint, He should be the one I cling to, because He never changes. What a relief! To know that there is only one thing in this world that doesn’t change, and that’s Jesus Christ.

Ok I’ll get off of my soap box for now, I got a little preachy there. Anyways…wow 3 posts in one day, I am making up for lost time. Hope you all have a great weekend!!!

Here’s to Amazing Friends….

June 20, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Last night was just one of those great nights, with a friend that I don’t get to see that often these days. I haven’t hung out with Alissa since my engagment party the day after I got engaged, and that was over a month ago, and since then she has gotten engaged and is planning her own wedding on December 27th! But yesterday we met up at Onion Creek and talked about the joys and frustrations of wedding planning, how relationships change, and how people change. It is so great and such a blessing to have a friend that is experiencing many of the same things I have going on in my life right now. When we first met back in high school we both thought the other person was weird and kinda snobby. So funny how time changes things. And during our junior and senior year of college we were inseperable, dressing up as a runner and surgeon on Halloween because we didn’t have costumes, right down to fake blood on the scrubs. We laughed and cried, and and stayed up way too late ’studying’ (really just talking on the floor in my room). I would make her sit on my bed so that I could talk and clean my room at the same time, it’s the only way I could clean my room, pretty sad I know. Over the years our friendship has changed, as all friendships do, but I love her very much, and am so glad to be a part of her wedding in December. It will be nice when life slows down a bit so I can see her more!

I didn’t fall off the wagon I promise!

June 12, 2008 · 1 Comment

And we’re back….This week has been a little crazy, actually a lot crazy, such is life I guess. I have been in training all week starting at 7, which meant I had to get up before 6, and ending at 4:30, which meant I got off of work around 5:30ish, which is quite a long day. Tomorrow is my Friday off, and it is much needed. On Tuesday, I completely forgot I had bible study, and by the time I got Stacey’s message, it was too late, and I couldn’t believe I was so distracted, that’s what happens when you forget to check your calender. So….I am determined to do better this next week. This weekend is pretty jam-packed, we are going to visit a few reception/wedding venues on Friday (Ashton Gardens, Spring Chateau, and Lindsay Lakes), and then Saturday we are going cake-tasting and with have a pow-wow meeting with our wedding coordinator, Melinda, and the moms if they decide to come. I don’t know how much of an appetite I will have at 9:30 AM, I don’t think my cake tasting palette is up and going by then, but it will have to do because she is squeezing us in. Our meeting afterwards is going to be at Tiny Boxwoods, one of the best places for breakfast/lunch in Houston, in my humble opinion. And after that we are off to the florist perhaps, to look at flowers, My Cutting Garden. So it’s slowly but surely coming together. I really just want to find a place soon, the venue we looked at last weekend was ok, but pretty expensive, and the woman wasn’t as nice as I thought she would be. So we will see. Adam is starting his new job next Tuesday, he is so excited. After all that has happened, the Lord has just remained so faithful in everything. It is so great to see him smiling and actually really looking forward to work. He will be doing a combination of web/graphic design and audio engineering, a perfect combination for him. Thank you all for your prayers over the last few weeks, we are blessed to have such amazing friends who stand beside us through thick and thin. That’s about it, I’ll try and stay more up to date, and to take more pictures, gosh I need to take more pictures, bye for now.

Jumping on the Blog Bandwagon

June 6, 2008 · 2 Comments

So for along time, I’ve been meaning to write on my blog. I’m not very good at making decisions, it actually took me a couple weeks just to come up with the name of my blog. So what’s new in my life? Well, I just started a new job, I’m getting married, and I’m moving, so kinda a lot. I’m trying to take it day by day so that I don’t get too overwhelmed, I’ll probably need to be reminded of that in another month or so. My job is great! Even though I don’t do much yet, I really feel like I am right where the Lord wants me, and that’s such an amazing feeling. The week after next we are flying the corporate jet to Colorado, and no I’m not important at all in this multi-billion dollar company, but it’s fun to think about. I’ll try to get some pictures without looking like a kid in a candy store. I need to put up some pictures of my office, it’s nothing much, pretty small, but it’s nice and cozy. Wedding planning is slowly coming along. Adam and I took a week off to focus on finding him a job, and just to not get so stressed out, it was really nice to not think about it at all, but now we need to. This weekend we are going to look at a ceremony/reception venue up in Spring that we will hopefully book. And after that, we just need to knock out the major things like florist, photographer, cake maker, band, and then I can relax for awhile. I am so excited about this phase of my life, there is so much going on and so many moving parts, I just don’t want to miss anything or wish myself into the future, you know? I’ll keep the blog updated, hopefully, that’s my goal! Bye for now.
